Having been engaged in economic research and analysis for many years, frankly speaking, this profession is of little use in Hong Kong. Its future prospects are only going to worsen.

Firstly, "economic research" sounds like a single job or a single profession, but in reality, it is very broad and involves different fields. In Hong Kong, there are roughly five industries or ways of making a living that utilize "economic research" or engage in "economic research": university academic research, financial institution analysts, government or public sector economists, corporate strategy formulation, and business consulting. Unfortunately, I have been involved in all five fields, either through work or through professional contacts.
